Psalm 104

O Lord, how manifold are your works! In wisdom you have made them all...(v. 24a)

Darkness is a powerful thing. It can take the joy out of the heart of us and make us believe that God is absent from our lives. It can blind us to the good God gives us every moment that we live and plant seeds of despair that wither our spirits.

Psalm 104 dares to make the claim that the God who created is the God who is still very present in this world. God created with purpose and delight, and continues to pour creative energy into every circumstance of our lives. That means every circumstance has the potential for new life in some way, if we will let go of our need to control and allow God to lead.

When our lives seem to be unraveling, when we lose what we most cherish and cannot call it back, we must look to the God who created the heavens and set the foundations of the earth. Life and light spring from the heart of this God. Our lives may not be all that we want them to be, but in surrendering them to God, we give them into the hands of the only One who can give them back to us, covered by grace and shrouded in love.

Walk each day in the light of that truth.

You, O God, created in love. Help me to see how your power is at work for me.
