Meditation 8: Deuteronomy 308/25/2009 8:01:35 PM Deuteronomy 30:1-5 ...then the Lord your God will...have compassion on you...(v. 3) One of the enduring truths of this life is that our decisions and actions have consequences, for this is the way we learn. Our life is mostly an unfolding story that is woven at each fork in the road, as we pick and choose our way down the path of life. God may allow us to experience the consequences of our choices, but God never does so vindictively. These times are always meant to teach us; that means every event and circumstance is a blessing in some way. If God shielded us from our choices, we’d live superficially. We learn our lessons and then we learn them again. We keep on learning at different levels of complexity. Through it all, God’s compassion gives us the courage to face the results of our choices and keep on going. Because God is compassionate with us, we learn to be compassionate with ourselves. And the more compassionate we are with ourselves, the more we can be so with others. We serve the world best when we recognize God’s love for all creation, ourselves included. It makes us want to be part of God’s healing for the world. Compassionate God, you gently teach me to fully live this life, for the sake of the world. Thank you. |
